Media and online gaming company Media Corporation plc presented its third quarter trading update this week.

The company reported good growth in revenues from its media division, Eyeconomy but declining results from its online gaming arm, Purple Lounge in its third fiscal quarter.

Q3 2011 Key Performance Indicators include:

- Group Revenues of GBP 11.4 million (Q3/2010: GBP 11.8 million)

- Eyeconomy revenues of GBP 1.9 million (Q3/2010: GBP 0.7 million)

- Purple Lounge revenues of GBP 9.5 million (Q3/2010: GBP 11.0 million)

Year to June 30 2011 :

- Group Revenues of GBP 24.7 million (2010: GBP 21.7 million)

- Purple Lounge revenues of GBP 19.5 million (2010: GBP 18.8 million)

The group divulged that the sale of Sport.co.uk brought in GBP 200 000 to the company’s coffers while Purple Lounge now has 115 000 registered customers of which 4 500 were acquired during the three month period under review.

As reported by Bloomberg: “Wynn Resorts Ltd. sold $500 million of bonds, 43 percent more than planned, as the casino company founded by billionaire Stephen Wynn bids to run New York City’s first slot-machine contract.

“The 7.875 percent, first-mortgage notes due in 2017 priced at a discount to yield 8.25 percent, or 504 basis points more than similar-maturity Treasuries, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The company’s Wynn Las Vegas LLC unit issued the notes. Wynn had earlier planned to sell $350 million of debt. A basis point is 0.01 percentage point.

“Wynn is bidding to redevelop Aqueduct Racetrack in New York’s borough of Queens and operate 4,500 slot-machine-style video-lottery terminals there. The Las Vegas-based company’s offering likely reflects Wynn’s “desire” to win the contract and raise cash for projects in Asia, including the Cotai Strip in Macau, Barbara Cappaert, a high-yield analyst at KDP Investment Advisors Inc., said today in a report.

“‘Wynn is amassing cash and liquidity,’ the Montpelier, Vermont-based analyst wrote. ‘The show of strength — cash, the ability to raise cash and the valuations now inherent in the equity of its Las Vegas and Macau subsidiaries — make a strong case for what is expected to be a roughly $400 million to $500 million project.’

Nevada gaming revenue decreases 9.3 percent

Nevada recorded its 20th straight decline in statewide gaming revenues during August, confirming casino insider predictions of a dismal summer month.

Casinos collected $847 million from gamblers during the month, a 9.3 percent decline compared with $934.1 million won in August 2008, according to numbers reported by the Gaming Control Board Thursday morning.

On the Strip, gaming revenues were $449.6 million, a 9 percent decline compared with $494 million collected a year ago.

All but two areas of Clark County reported revenue declines, from a low of 3.8 percent downtown to a high of 21.5 percent in Mesquite.

North Las Vegas, fueled by the November opening of Aliante Station, reported gaming revenues of $22.1 million, a 21.9 percent increase compared with $18.1 million a year ago.

The Boulder Strip, which includes Henderson, saw a boost from the March opening of M Resort. Gaming revenues in August were $63.4 million, a 21.5 percent increase compared with $52.2 million in August 2008.

In recent comments to investors, gaming analysts said declining hotel room rates and travel specials were not going to be enough to make August a rebound month.

Morgan Joseph gaming analyst Justin Sebastiano said last week Nevada “posted surprisingly poor numbers in August and September trends have not really improved.”

Gaming taxes collected based on the August gaming revenues were $49.7 million, a decrease of 9 percent compared with $54.6 million collected a year ago.

Changes in the short to medium term are unlikely
